What is The Song Contest?
It all started at an open mic in Albuquerque. Open mics are an awesome way to meet musicians and share your music—but let’s be real, they can get repetitive. Same faces, same songs, week after week.
So, we decided to shake things up! We "Curate & Rotate" the lineup to keep things fresh and exciting. Then, we take it a step further—why not add a cash prize for the best songwriter? But instead of the usual “Cheer-o-meter” (which, let’s be honest, is just a loudness contest), we created a judging system that actually makes sense, plus a fun way for the audience to participate.
What started as a simple open mic evolved into a full-blown, high-energy, wholesome live game show—a place where you can bring your fans, friends, and family, compete for a cash prize, and most importantly, just have fun playing music!
Perform at The Song Contest
We encourage you to sign up for multiple nights! Each time you perform a new song, you get a fresh score—so the more you play, the better your chances. Plus, you get to keep your highest score!
With plenty of slots and a fast-moving lineup, there’s always room to jump in. We’re hosting at Nob Hill Stage (3619 Copper Ave NE) from 7-9 PM—come play, compete, and have a blast!

You'll take the stage, play your song, and our judges will score you using a strict, patented (okay, maybe not patented, but definitely well-thought-out) criteria to keep things fair and objective.
Right after your performance, you’ll get instant feedback—Our judges are local musicians who’ve won the contest themselves or sponsors who believe in supporting great music. Either way, they know their stuff.

Top 9 Scores of the Competition
After 4 or 5 weeks of racking up scores, the top 9 songwriters will face off in the ultimate Song-Off! 🎤
Here’s the twist: they’ll have one week to write a brand-new song based on a surprise prompt. Then, they battle it out on stage, performing their fresh creation in the first round.
And the Song-Off is ruthless. People die. Just kidding… but we do eliminate contestants round by round until only one songwriter is left standing! 💀🎶 Think you’ve got what it takes?
